July 3rd 2023 – SLC, UT
Salt Lake City is an amazing place to stay. It’s a pleasure to stay with Ron and Anne. They live on the first floor of a building right by City Creek opposite The State Capitol with amazing views of the city and the mountains beyond.
Ron likes beer and makes sure I taste samples of what the local breweries have to offer.
Saturday night we went to the movies to watch Indiana Jones’ latest adventures.
Sunday morning Ron took Katrine and me for a ride through the Wasatch Mountains. Great riding and amazing scenery. We stopped for a late breakfast in Park City and reached almost 10.000 feet/3.000 meters before returning to SLC.
Today I visited Wright’s Motorcycle Shop to get new tires fitted to my bike.
The selection was limited. On advice from Ron I had decided on a set of Shinko 705. They didn’t charge much, so I let the shop do the work. The guy changing the tires knew what he was doing. I lend him a hand. When balancing the front tire it was evident that the wheel bearings weren’t 100%. The shop had the right bearings in stock so we replaced them.
I was back on the street within an hour. The front tire felt unbalanced as soon as I gained a little speed. I turned around and returned to the shop. The tire guy took the bike for a spin and agreed. Based on previous experience with Shinko tires he suspected that it was a faulty tire. He replaced it with another one. The new tire was better but still not as smooth as I would have liked. It was the day before Independence day. The shop was very busy. Maybe the rim was part of the problem – or you get what you pay for when buying tires..? I decided to leave it at that.
An hour ago SLC was hit by a dust storm. It looked impressive from the balcony. A wall of dust accompanied by thunder arrived from the west, blotted out the surrounding mountains and soon engulfed the entire city. It only lasted maybe 15 minutes.
