To avoid wasting time waiting for parts when we arrived in Phoenix, we decided on the mods and ordered what we needed long before we left Denmark.

It was an interesting exercise to decide  before we even got our hands on the bikes. We had to rely on a short test ride and our  experience with previous bikes and the input from other 300 Rally riders.

The bikes that we bought had some nice modifications done to them already, which saved us both time and money on setup. Katrine seized the one with ABS.

The biggest and most important modification done to the bikes were the Race Tech upgraded suspension front and rear. The OEM suspension is seriously undersprung and dampened for “grown-ups” carrying luggage. Both bikes were set up to a 230 lbs load. It was almost spot-on for Katrine and acceptable to me (we both carry around 25 kg/55 lbs of luggage).

We moved some of the parts already installed from one bike to the other to accommodate taste and preferences.

Even before we bought the bikes, I had decided to remove the lower plastic and mount bash plates designed for the 300L to achieve a slimmer profile down low, easier access to the engine and less space to collect mud and dirt. Fortunately it was already done to Katrines bike when we got it.

In the end the bikes were set up like this:
