The Roaming Vikings

The Roaming Vikings

My name is Tonny.

I was born in 1973 in Denmark and grew up around Aarhus, the second largest city in the country.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been adventurous and yearned to explore the world.

At the age of 14 I picked up a motorcycle magazine showing all the new 1987 models. As I leafed through that magazine it dawned on me that motorcycles could be the answer to all my dreams of freedom and adventure. I became increasingly passionate about anything related to motorcycles. As soon as possible I got my license and purchased my first bike.

Since then my insatiable wanderlust and passion for motorcycles have been the most influential factors in my life and for a large part define who I am.

My work life has been interesting. I joined the army at 18 and served as a sergeant in a combat unit, followed by some exciting years in a security company before I changed direction and got engaged in various kinds of rescue work. In recent years I’ve worked as a paramedic.

I fell in love with Katrine in 1997. She has been my life companion ever since. In many regards we are each other’s polar opposites, but we share important fundamental values and passions. We both love to travel and view life as an adventure we don’t want to miss out on.

A few years into our relationship Katrine decided to get a motorcycle license and become a rider instead of a pillion. A decision she has never regretted.

Katrine and I have traveled as much as our work and finances allowed, usually several times a year for up to a month at a time. We have traveled all over Europe by motorcycle and explored countries further afield by other means. Katrine and I have become great travel companions. Because of our differences we complemented each other well and by accommodating each other’s needs and desires, we both got a richer experience.

For years our work-life balance suited us well, but as we became seasoned travelers we felt a growing desire to travel without being restricted by a deadline and obligations back home.

In 2017 we saw a window of opportunity coming up that would allow us to hit the reset button, realize our dream and set out to roam the world as nomads on an open ended journey.

From then on we began to prepare, making sure we were ready to pounce when the stars aligned.
